Billy wows massive Festival crowd

There was so much talent playing at the Audlem Festival yesterday it seems almost invidious to mention one act in particular.

The expectation was so great we wondered if the weight of numbers on the Bridge's tarmac car park could cope. It was possibly the biggest audience yet for an Audlem Festival performance – see Reuben Palin's photo from the stage (3rd photo).

How would he arrive, all were wondering – the answer was soon clear: by a Rockabillistic missile. Red, glowing and crewed by Professor Atom, aka Billy Gibbons, . And as he immediately made clear, those speed bumps don't speed you up, they slow you down!

The entertainment was brilliant as Billy, in his first Festival gig for five years, entertained right royally with pulsating music and, between numbers, some of the best – and worst – jokes we had heard in years.

Strangely, amongst the crowds lining up to congratulate Billy afterwards, the first five all sported fifties quiffs. And then it was the men's turn......
