Billy Gibbons on Jeremy Vine show

Not satisfied with his appearance last week on Popmaster on Ken Bruce's BBC Radio2 programme, local personality Billy Gibbons popped up this week on Wednesday's Jeremy Vine programme on the same radio station.

Jeremy had started a discussion on one of the First World's more pressing problems: Why do electric kettles have to be so loud? Many people came on the show – the answer, by the way, is all the bubbles developing and then exploding – including, interestingly, a lady from the Noise Abatement Society who virtually whispered throughout her contribution – now that's living the job!

Billy Gibbons was the last contributor and had taken the trouble to bring his lawnmower into his living room to compare kettle and mower volumes in a strictly scientific way. Perhaps the funniest thing about the 'interview' was what Jeremy Vine said after Billy had gone off the air. "Was that the maddest item we have ever put on the Radio" and, "I just couldn't bear to ask Billy Gibbons why he's got a Lawn Mower in his front room because I know the answer will take 10 minutes!"

Fascinatingly, the worst kettle featured on the show was a very expensive Dualit which apart from being very noisy was also very slow to boil water, according to its disgruntled owner who said it was the worst thing he had ever bought, while the owner of a £5 kettle from ASDA was pretty pleased with his purchase, despite the noise.

Audlem has had a fair bit of coverage on Jeremy Vine's show and we would be remiss and far too modest not to mention how he praised AudlemOnline for about ten minutes on his show a couple of years ago.

If you would like to listen to Billy's contribution, which is very near the end of the show at about 1hr 54 minutes in using the slider on IPlayer, or from about 1hr 35 minutes if you want to listen to the whole of this fascinating piece, click here.
