Audlem Charity Shop, at their AGM on Wednesday this week, very kindly donated £4,000 to Audlem & District Community Action for its work in the village and surrounding area.

I was very pleased to attend to receive the donation and also to be invited to give short(ish) talk on the work of ADCA over the last four years.

This donation will certainly helps two of our newer services, the Carers' Support Group and the Medical Transport Service, continue into the future as our funding for these two services runs out at the end of March 2015.

So a big thank you to the Charity Shop on behalf of ADCA's Trustees, Staff, Volunteers and Members – who now number some 150 people in the local area.

Medical Transport Service

I was pleased to be able to tell the AGM that the Medical Transport Service, which ADCA took over from ADAS last Spring, has now undertaken its 100th trip to take people to hospital and to local GP appointments, which otherwise they would have great difficulty in attending.

Also, that we do need more voluntary drivers for this service and also to help with the driving to get older members to our Tuesday Day Club. If anyone is interested in becoming a voluntary driver, please ring our office number on 747163 and we will contact you.

Carers' Support Group

The Audlem Carers' Support Group continues to go from strength to strength. It meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month in the Lord Combermere between 10am and 12noon.

35 carers are now in touch with the support services ADCA provides including Carers' Break events which certainly help carers maintain their own health and well-being. All carers are welcome to pop in for a coffee and chat.

Once again, a big thank you to the Charity Shop for their kind support – and for confirmation that it is the role of a Chairman to have to talk quite a bit.
