We received this from local residents who did not wish to be named for fear of retribution but in the hope it might serve as a caution to other fellow villagers

Last summer we had a flat roof repaired, but by this spring parts of the so-called protective final layer were starting to flake off. With hindsight, it became clear that the work had not been carried out with reasonable care and skill. We agreed to have it replaced by a sloping roof, at a reduced price.

Three weeks after the work had been completed, the scaffolding had not been removed. We had to pay for this to be done, although we understood that the cost had been included in the original price.

By this time only one of the original two contractors was on the scene and we had previously asked him to repair a small problem with our conservatory roof.
In the process of preparing for this he caused damage that has yet to be repaired although, at our expense, he had ordered the necessary materials.

That was nearly three months ago. The last time we had any contact with him was six weeks ago.

This case has now been taken up by Trading Standards, following our initial contact with Citizens Advice. The more examples Trading Standards can get of contractors' poor business practice, the more likely it is that they can be prosecuted. Please contact Citizens Advice Cheshire East on 0800 144 8848 if you have experienced anything similar.
