Back in January we reported that during 2006, three of Audlem's bellringers would celebrate their 60th birthdays and to commemorate the occasion the bellringers have set themselves the difficult target of ringing 60 quarter peals during the year.

Just to remind you that although this may not sound a lot to us laymen, a quarter peal is a complex manoeuvre that takes approximately 40 minutes and involves 1,260 changes. Each change is a different permutation of the order in which the bells are rung.

We promised to keep you informed of the bellringers' progress throughout the year. In order to accomplish the feat, they obviously have to average more than one peal per week. Unfortunately, they are behind schedule at this stage with the total to date now standing at EIGHT.

It looks like they'll have to 'go like the clappers' in order to get back on target!
