Audlem Saints got back in the winning groove on Sunday...particularly good news as the game Vs Boro Boys was the quarter final of the knockout cup competition!

Saints played very well indeed and some of the passing moves were a joy to watch. The boys played at a good tempo from the off and created a couple of chances in the first minute, bringing good saves from a solid Boro Boys 'keeper.

Mid-way through the first period though, Saints struck. A superb pass down the line released the Saints striker. He showed good strength and speed to get to the by-line before pulling back a low, hard cross into the penalty area. Arriving right on cue, a Saints midfielder tucked the ball away for a very simple but very well worked goal.

Saints defenders were on top form and with the midfield boys breaking up any Boro moves, the opposition were reduced to long range speculative efforts. It was one such that levelled the game just before half time.

To their credit though, Saints kept playing the fast, efficient passing game and created plenty more chances. It seemed like the hard work was about to be paid off when three quick passes released a Saints midfielder in a great position. However, as he was about to shoot he was bundled over to win a free kick on the edge of the area. A lovely curling shot over the wall and into the net settled the game...helped enormously by a super piece of thinking by Saints central midfielder. Knowing that a shot on goal was coming, he stood in front of the Boro keeper and moved away only as the ball flew past him and the keeper.

This was a very good team effort and everyone played their part..well done lads. The semi-final will be played in March.
