Members of AWEG (Audlem Wildlife & Ecology Group) were on a Himalayan Balsam pull on Friday, trying to stop the highly invasive species spreading next to Audlem Brook near to Green Lane.
Once the plant flowers, it spreads very rapidly and chokes off native species. It loves the boggy areas there and can spread along brooks and streams making it very difficult to keep in check.
AWEG have been working in that area for three years now and seem to be making an impact on the Balsam. Another pulling session is planned for three weeks time.
