Over the last month or so members of the Audlem Wildlife and Ecology Group (AWEG) have been helping the pupils of two local schools in constructing bird boxes to be sited on trees within their respective school grounds.
Last October a team of eight children from Audlem School supported by teachers, parents and members of AWEG had a great time constructing four bird boxes and these have now been sited on trees around the school.
Recently AWEG repeated this exercise at Adderley School and again it was a very enjoyable experience for all the pupils, teachers and parents involved.
The pupils are now hoping, that as spring approaches, birds will explore the boxes and start nesting in some, if not all, of them. The most likely species to use the boxes will be Blue Tits, Great Tits and possibly Nuthatches.
AWEG would like to thank the schools for letting us run this exercise, the parents whom so ably assisted us, and all the members of Ralph Warburton's Xmas Santa Run team as the boxes were funded from a donation from the money raised from this annual event.
