Some readers will be aware that AudlemOnline's editor was going into hospital in Manchester for a major operation on Monday. We are glad to report that the operation was performed as planned, although the recovery period is going to be weeks rather than days.

Hearing that it was likely to be a full twelve hours in theatre, Bob assumed – he can be prone to exaggeration on occasions – that it was just about a full head transplant he was to have and selected a photo of what he would like to look like afterwards, once the bruising had gone down!

We are glad to report that we have heard that he is doing fine although still in the High Dependency Unit, as is normal after major surgery like this.

We have also been warned by his wife, Helen, that he is armed with a self-operated morphine administering device and his iPad, a possibly dangerous combination in the circumstances. Rest assured, the rest of the webteam will be moderating (possibly severely) any stories, missives or simply rantings – or even worse, his first ideas for next year's April Fools Day – that come our way written under the influence.

We understand he will be safely tucked away in hospital for some time but you (and he) can rest assured that AudlemOnline is in safe hands with the rest of the webteam in the meantime.

Finally, if by chance you do see someone resembling the man in the photo wandering around the village in a few weeks' time, you will know the operation has been a 100% success.
