"All that is necessary for evil to succeed is that good men do nothing."

It's amazing how a small mention on AOL can lead to such a huge response, but that is exactly what happened on Thursday at this month's WI meeting.

The President, Elizabeth Green, asked for specific donations to help the Ukrainian refugees, mainly sleeping bags, blankets, warm clothing, toys, colouring books and, more importantly, toiletries and medicines.

We should never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the lives of those in need, and we were all humbled by the stories behind some of these donations.

A loving brother brought medicines, blankets and boxes of female necessities donated by his terminally ill sister who will now, never need them.

Several mothers collecting their children from school having heard about the WI request at the school gates, rushed home to collect and deliver a variety of their childrens' warm clothing and shoes to us.

Many people had bought medicines, toiletries, blankets and sleeping bags, still in their wrappers – the list of kind and thoughtful donations was astounding.

The WI were also thanked for facilitating a way for people to help in some small way!

Today, Friday, we are awaiting the arrival of a lorry to take your donations to Chester where they will be sorted and delivered to Poland. ** SEE UPDATE BELOW**

All we can say is that your presence and donations spoke volumes. Thank you for all your support, because in doing so our community is, in some small way, giving the Ukrainian people a better chance of surviving and helping them to build a new life.

We are also showing them that despite the forces of hate, crippling their democratic country simply because of their desire to be a free people, there are strangers who care about them.

Thank you Audlem.

**Update on Friday**
For whatever reason, the lorry never came, hence the appeal yesterday for anybody who can help with a suitable van or lorry to get the pile of donations to Crewe.
