After a long Covid-induced hiatus, Audlem Voices are very happy to have returned to our regular Tuesday evening slot in St James’ Church. We are even more happy that ten – yes TEN! – newcomers have joined us!
Mindful that all is not totally well on the Covid front as yet, we are currently rehearsing in spaced out fashion in the pews rather than up on the sanctuary, but are hopeful that ‘proper’ normality will be resumed in the not too distant future. Meanwhile, we are having fun getting our vocal chords properly functional again and becoming used to that almost forgotten sound – our own voices producing the harmonies we love!
Covid times have led to some departures from the choir, and although new people have joined us, the balance has been upset.
Our remaining men-folk are doing their best, but the significantly larger number of women-folk on the other side can just make so much more noise!
So we are putting out the word to the men. (Not just Tom, Dick and Harry – all names from A to Z welcome!)
Come to the aid of your fellows! Do you like singing in the pub, in the shower, at a party, in church – anywhere, really? You’d probably enjoy singing in our choir!
We sing a mix of classical and popular music arranged for four voice parts, and aim to put on several concerts each year. You don’t need to have sung in a choir before. You don’t need to be able to read music (it’s great if you can, of course). We subscribe to an online music resource for choir members to listen to at home to help learn their parts. You won’t be expected to be expert right away – we know it takes time.
All you need is to be willing to put in that time and effort and stick with it! And us!
Why not come along for a trial period? Newcomers don’t pay the subscription until they have been participating for three months and are ready to commit.
We rehearse from 7 to 9pm in St James’ Church in Audlem every Tuesday.
If you don’t know already, our musical director can help you find out which voice part (tenor or bass) you are best suited to.
Please call Jenny Collis-Smith, our musical director, on 07734 321588 to let her know you will be coming, so that our Music Librarian can get the scores we are currently working on ready for you (you can just return these if you decide not to continue).
We look forward to seeing you!
