While the planned opening date for the new Co-op Village Store in Audlem seems to change on an almost daily basis, one sign that the opening is near has been the delivery of the new shop's trolleys, a major step forward for a village that has never seen anything more advanced than a wire basket before.

The latest date for the opening, we are told, is Friday 21st December but progress on the new store is rapid, so could it be earlier? The ATM cash machine, for example, moved across the road yesterday.

Given some of the superb wine offers the Co-op has been running in the old store in recent weeks – including the wonderful-value Marques de Monistrol Vintage Cava bubbly that was last year adjudged the #1 value bubbly in the country – the new trolleys could well help Audlem residents to enjoy a very Merry Christmas this year.
