Audlem has asked Crewe & Nantwich Borough Council if they will be willing to help with the operating costs of improved sports facilities in the village. An article on the Homepage by Roland Hall, chairman of the Community Projects group working on the implementation of the Parish Plan, summarises the proposal sent to the Borough.

A report published yesterday supports in the starkest terms the need for more sport. The National Audit Office, the Healthcare Commission and the Audit Commission jointly accused the Government over its confusion, delay and lack of leadership over efforts to combat obesity. Over one in seven children are now obese and there are fears this will increase to half of all children by 2020. Steve Bundred, the chief executive of the Audit Commission, said: "If the trend continues, this generation of children will be the first for many decades that doesn't live as long as their parents."

A survey of 35 countries by the World Health Organisation found that the diets of British children were amongst the unhealthiest in Europe. Increased provision and use of sports facilities is one of the key solutions to this issue, hence the plans that Audlem has developed. The success of Audlem Tennis Club since it improved its facilities in the 1980's shows what can be done. Audlem is so far from anywhere that much improved local facilities are essential, hence the appeal to Crewe & Nantwich Borough Council. Funding for the initial design work on a sports hall is also being sought from Defra via Cheshire Community Council.
