Audlem Saturday XI win at Cheadle

Cheadle CC v Audlem CC, Saturday August 12th

League leaders Audlem are now 19 points clear at the top of the division following their win at second placed Cheadle.

Audlem took first use of a suspect wicket after being asked to bat after losing the toss and soon found themselves in trouble at 8 for 3. A 35 run stand between Kamal Toraman (19) & Richard Wilson ( 10 ) gave the score a more respectable look but another flurry of wickets reduced the score to a desperate 59 for 8. Audlem's long batting line-up once again came to the rescue , this time in the guise of Abhijith Jayan ( 35 not out) & Ben Sailsbury ( 12 )who took the score to 115 before Ben became the fourth LBW victim of the innings. No further runs were added but Audlem were the happier of the two teams at the interval.

Cheadle found the batting conditions equally challenging and soon subsided to 26 for 4 then 44 for 5 with opening bowlers Abhijith Jayan ( 3 for 21 ) & Simon Swift ( 4 for 32 ) in sublime form but Will Riley ( 34 ) looked solid and inched the score to 93 for 6 and victory was in sight for the hosts. With just 23 runs needed and four wickets in hand disaster struck for Cheadle when Chris Prince was run out after a misunderstanding & the returning Simon Swift quickly removed the dangerous Will Riley soon followed by the last two wickets to pull off a magnificent victory against the odds as Cheadle subsided to 99 all out.
