Having won the league title for the second consecutive competition, Audlem Saints U9s kicked off a new league series on Sunday.

The opposition was provided by the runners up from last time, Boca Juniors. A predictably tight game ensued but there was plenty of skill on display. Both sides play a neat passing game and so it was a game that was easy on the eye. The opening goal though was not characteristic of the passing nature of the game. Bursting forward, the Audlem central defender found himself in acres of space. He looked up and let fly a superb long range shot into the top right hand corner. A great way to put Audlem in front! Good defending and goalkeeping kept Boca out and the game was sealed with a late Saints goal. This time, good passing moved the ball quickly into the danger area. The Audlem striker unselfishly slotted a great pass for a late arriving midfielder to stroke home. Next week, Saints take on Cougars.
