Some two weeks ago I was made aware of a current craze that is sweeping South Cheshire/Staffordshire/Shropshire associated with painting, hiding and seeking out hidden 'rocks' pebbles.

It was decided that Audlem Lass would set to and paint, decorate and hide some 'rocks' in and around Audlem and further afield as the opportunity arose and promote this activity on their facebook site.

The message on each rock asks the finder to take a photo of the rock, post the pic on Audlem Lass facebook site and then rehide the rock for others to find, or bring the rock onto the Audlem Lass boat.

This exercise has been a surprising success and is helping to promote the Audlem Lass, Audlem village and Overwater Marina where the boat is based. Some of those who have found rocks and since come on the boat, the prompt to look at the facebook site has given them their first knowledge of our part of South Cheshire. Attached is a collage of facebook page postings reflecting some of this. Following on from this, at the Audlem Tourist Meeting on Tuesday, it was agreed that a facebook page should be set up called 'Audlem Rocks' the aim being that traders, community groups, individuals, can paint and hide rocks to promote Audlem and the many and varied activities within it with which they are involved.

Audlem Rocks is a facebook page which is now up and running and is already attracting a lot of 'likes'. Each rock has a number and the public are encouraged via facebook postings to come into our area for youngsters to find hidden rocks. A lot of the youngsters are beginning to record a sequence of numbers on the rocks they have found and rehidden.

Rocks which have been found have already found their new hiding place as far away as Manchester, Telford, Norfolk, etc. only to be re-found there, posted on the facebook site and rehidden who knows where until the rock pops up again.

The trader, community group, individual must have a facebook page for this to work for them. Attached is an example of the style of rock painting used for Audlem Lass -- logo & number on the front, instructions on the reverse.

Anyone who would like further information of how to set about this I can be contacted on hello@audlemlass.co.uk or 07880 727870 Hope this all makes sense.

Kind regards
Joe
