Audlem W.I. to the rescue

This was the scene in Audlem Town Hall on Sunday afternoon as the W.I. and an army of helpers sorted out Audlem's massive response to the W.I. appeal for donations to help the refugee women and children of Ukraine.

An appeal on AoL helped to produce an array of cardboard boxes to pack the stuff to go into the Public Hall garage under Geoff's supervision until the lorry can collect it to start its long journey to Eastern Europe.

And here's the question – how do we know that it is the W.I. behind all this? – because every single person is holding a cup of tea!

The second picture shows the real mastermind, Elizabeth, as she ensures that everything is sorted properly.

This scene will have been repeated over and over again in many villages and towns up and down the land – the authorities have now asked that the donation of "things" be paused to let them catch up with the massive task of getting it all to the other end of Europe and distributed to those who need it.

What they need now is cash, pure and simple,

In this respect, Ralph writes
"We remember the massive coming together a few years ago to raise over £100,000 to help a very ill and lovely woman, Bernie Cliffe.

"Now, that unhappy country, Ukraine, is facing such horrors as a mighty army descends on it and on its innocent people. Men, women , children and babies all facing bombing and cannon fire from Putin of Russia . Over 1,.5 million have fled to Moldova, Poland, Romania etc , taking nothing more that a suitcase with them. One must praise the likes of Poland for the open arms they have for these refugees.

"We here can help with cash donations for medicines, hygiene stocks and even fresh clean water .

"As such I suggest that we come together again and make a donation."

There are many ways to make a donation nationally, but Judy at Williams of Audlem has kindly agreed to accept any cheques (made out to DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal) or cash and she will ensure that they are passed on to the correct destination.
