Saturday October 10th Led by Chris Knibbs.

Long ARS Memory Lane Walk- Moel Hebog Snowdonia. 8 miles 5 Booter- strenuous

Some ARS members know this walk as the moly hedgehog walk. ITS TOUGH.
Meet 7:30am Audlem Car Park. Just over 2hr drive to Beddgelert Car Park, LL55 4YJ.
Assemble there 9:45am approx
Public Toilets signposted down by the river next to the Woodcraft shop .

After a short walk out of town, past the railway heading towards Rhyd Ddu, branch left and the climbing starts, its a steep pull all the way to the summit of Moel Hebog, There s plenty of time for energy breaks. The path is well marked and continues left of spectacular crags, followed by some light scrambling (not exposed) and some easy scree and a further rocky section to the summit. On a good day there are spectacular views of Snowdon and the Nantile Ridge. The path down is steep to a col just before Moel yr Ogof, good idea to have walking poles here, for stability on these steep grassy slopes. From here is a great walk through Beddgelert Forest, following 2 streams, dilapidated board walks, bogs, a ford and many tree root trip hazards, finally emerging on the Rhyd Ddu track back to the safety of Beddgelert Car Park. Note that this part of Snowdonia has its own micro climate, so be prepared for all weathers.
