Rawhead, Bickerton and Larkton Hills, March 22nd 2025

Join the Audlem Ramblers for an invigorating walk on March 22nd, 2025, as we explore the picturesque landscapes of Rawhead, Bickerton, and Larkton Hills. The journey begins at the Sandstone pub car park in Brown Knowl where we will cross the A534 and head towards Harthill. Our ascent continues through Bodnik Wood until we reach the summit of Rawhead, where stunning views of the Clwydian Range and Shropshire hills await.

Our route takes us along the hillside, passing by Bickerton Church and climbing to Bickerton Hill, offering excellent vistas back towards Rawhead. We will then proceed to Larkton Hill, home to the remnants of Maiden Castle, an ancient iron age hillfort, before making our descent back to our starting point in Brown Knowl.

This 6-mile walk includes a total ascent of 263m and approximately 10 stiles. Participants are advised to meet at the Audlem car park for an 8.45 departure.

NB All walkers must have suitable footwear and be prepared for adverse weather, carry food and water to last for the entire walk and be suitably fit for the various lengths of walk.

Each walk is led by a nominated leader who will carry some first-aid equipment. The leader has the right to refuse to include in a group anyone who is felt not be adequately equipped.

Non-members of Audlem Rambling Society (ARS) are welcome to come on a walk but are expected to join ARS and pay the membership fee after a trial walk or two.
