Steve Elliott is leading this walk on Saturday 31st May

Leave Audlem Car park at 8.30 and park at The Swan, Marbury SY13 4LS – they are aware.

A very gentle 6 (9.7km) mile walk with a total height gain of only 300ft (91m). Over half of the walk is along minor roads/tracks/towpath)

We start in Marbury, initially up School Lane to the Shropshire Union Canal and then walk along towpath for a mile-and-a-half to Willeymoor Lock. Crossing the canal we join the Bishop Bennett Way with a steady incline up to Wirswall, the highest point in this part of Cheshire (510ft/156m), from which there will hopefully be good views across to the Sandstone Ridge Hills.

Passing Wickstead Old Hall onto the South Cheshire Way we take a gentle path descent across fields, round the Big Mere and back into Marbury.

There are several stiles but most have an openable gate alongside so it is fairly dog friendly – though there are often sheep in the fields.
It will possibly be a bit muddy in places.

We will stop for a coffee break and should be back at the Swan by noonish.

NB All walkers must have suitable footwear and be prepared for adverse weather, carry food and water to last for the entire walk and be suitably fit for the various lengths of walk.

Each walk is led by a nominated leader who will carry some first-aid equipment. The leader has the right to refuse to include in a group anyone who is felt not be adequately equipped.

Non-members of Audlem Rambling Society (ARS) are welcome to come on a walk but are expected to join ARS and pay the membership fee after a trial walk or two.
