Audlem Ramblers at Cannock

Kate Down is leading the first ARS walk of 2026 on Cannock Chase – Saturday 10th January, 2026

This is an 8 mile walk on Cannock Chase, which takes in part of the Sherbrook Valley and the grounds of Shugborough Hall, where we start the walk and there is plenty of free parking and toilets. The walk is mostly on good tracks and gently undulating, with a couple of short steep descents – total ascent and descent of 800 feet. After walking through the grounds of Shugborough, we cross into the forest, where we loop round to the Sherbrook Valley and continue to Seven Springs. Then, we cross the road and walk to join the Trent and Mersey canal, and then back to Shugborough across the famous Essex Bridge.

Alfred Wainwright said that there is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing. However, the weather is looking a bit dodgy this week, so please be aware it may have to be postponed.

Optimistically though, meet at Audlem Carpark at for departure at 8.30 am. Journey time – 1 hour approximately. We should be back in Audlem around 3pm.
