The Sword of Damocles that has been hanging above post offices across the country appears to have been lifted as far as Audlem Post Office is concerned. Andrew and Lynn Smith have been told that Audlem will not be closed unless, during the consultation period that is now underway, there is a strong public demand for the Audlem Post Office to be closed. This is considered extremely unlikely!

Andrew says that he is very grateful for all the support he and Lynne have received from so many people. Every one, we are sure, will be delighted by the news and especially pleased for Andrew and Lynne as the suspense has lasted since last year.

The phrase 'use it or lose it' now springs to mind. The key thing is to use local businesses like the post office so that it will always come through future closure programmes in such a positive way. Unfortunately, four post offices in the Crewe & Nantwich area are now scheduled to close, so other communities have not been as fortunate as Audlem.
