Members of Audlem's Probus group are today visiting the Jaguar plant in Castle Bromwich. This is where the new Jaguar XF is produced which, says the company, "fuses sports car styling and performance with the refinement, features and space of a luxury saloon."

It's certainly a fine looking car – how many of the Audlem group will be tempted remains to be seen. The Jaguar XF is a brand new model that only went on sale six months ago and was first unveiled at last year's Frankfurt Motor Show. It was awarded the prestigious What Car? Car of the Year award, as well as taking away the prize in the executive car category. The XF was also awarded Car of the Year 2008 from What Diesel? magazine.

While many recent Jaguar models have had a 'retro' look, the XF is a totally new design concept, very much a coupé, a design trend started by Mercedes with its CLS-Class cars. Forty eight members of Probus are on the tour which should be quite a day for any car buff with such a new model rolling off the production line.

Probus meets on the 2nd and 4th Thursday mornings of the month at Brookfield Golf Club as well as having a programme of trips like today's.
