The 14th Audlem Music & Arts Festival
The biggest such event that is presented totally free to all, residents and visitors alike over the late-May Bank Holiday weekend. We, the Festival Team are now well down the track in our planning for what has become a big must for so many who come to enjoy a kaleidoscope of music, singing and arts displays to suit all tastes.
This year we are delighted that The Shroppie Fly, under its new and welcome management, are fully on board to play a full part – along with The Lord Combermere and The Bridge Inn.
This means we will have circa 110 different performers playing here across soul, jazz, funk, reggae, ballads, rock etc , etc. Such is the fame of our Festival, we have already had some 140 would-be performers seeking slots over the long weekend.
A new and wondrous Choral Day in the magnificent setting of St James' Church, with around 7/8 choirs singing from 1.00pm on the 24th May. Young choirs, A'cappela, invited choirs and a grand finale of Audlem Voices closing the day.
A new and splendid day of lovely voices.
We will have three stages – one at each of the three pubs with Marquees to give the cover needed for the audiences. New marquees are being bought by us.
We will also have performances in the Pinfold Courtyard and in Blues Alley opposite the Church Steps – next to the Old Priest House Café.
A Grand Slam Poetry evening will again be held on the 22nd at The Bridge Inn, with poets presenting and speaking their works before a judging panel. A great evening of talents. Plus a poetry workshop – hopefully in The Audlem Mill area – open to all.
The displays will be in The Methodist Church Hall. Bigger and better than ever. Christine will be working in the classrooms of year 5 & 6 children at St James' School on a project of Aboriginal Art along with the Class teacher.
I am now beginning the campaign to garner support from all businesses here in the Village and packs have been posted off to our very welcome donors. If any other would like to feature in our glossy programme, do please contact me – Ralph Warburton
