Have you been on the Audlem Lass — the boat that runs between Lock 15 and the Marina? If you have, we hope you enjoyed it.

Have you ever considered volunteering to help us run the boat — we hope you will!

Here are some questions we are often asked about volunteering, AND the answers!

Q: When do you run the boat?

A: Weekends and Bank Holidays. Start of April to end of October.

Q: what time commitment do I have to make?

A: NONE. We set up the rota each month in advance. You volunteer for times that suit you. On average, volunteers do 2 shifts a month — some more, some less. The choice is yours, on a monthly basis.

Q: How long is a shift?

A: Three and a half hours — 10.00 to 1.30 and 1.30 to 5.00.

Q: How much experience would I need?

A: NONE. We'll train you up.

Q: Would I be in charge of the boat — I'd be worried about that?

A: NO. Not until you were trained, experienced and want to do it. Before then there will ALWAYS be an experienced skipper with you.

Q: Would I have to drive the boat?

A: NO. We have volunteers who solely act as crew — helping to dock, watching the wildlife, chatting to passengers or, on a bad day, curling up in a corner in the pouring rain and questioning their own sanity!

Q: What's it like doing this?

A: IT'S A JOY! The canal is tranquil, the Marina is great, boaters are friendly and the passengers are delightful. It gets to be quite addictive! It also gathers money for a worthwhile cause.

As with all things in life the most important step is always the first step. We'd be grateful if you would take that step, after which we'd arrange to take you out on the boat 1:1 or for you to come on the boat when it's running and help to crew.
