Nantwich Cricket Club under13s, featuring three Audlem lads, have progressed to the final 6 of the ECB Under 13 National Club Championship.

The Dabbers travelled to Leamington Spa to compete in the West Midlands Final's and what a successful day for the young boys from Whitehouse Lane.

Their first match was against Staffordshire cup winners, Milford Hall, unbeaten in all forms of cricket over the past two years.

Nantwich batted first and scored 78-9 off their allotted 20 overs with George Newton retiring on 33 and then restricting Milford Hall to 74-9 off their overs with 10 year old Harry Newton claiming 4-18 off his four overs.

In very hot conditions the team then went on to meet Leamington Town CC, the Warwickshire cup winners in the final played on the home ground of the opponents.

Leamington batted first and scored 82-7 off 20 overs with young spinner Harry Newton once again taking 4-7 and Ben Johnson 2-11. The Dabbers don't do things the easy way, 53-1 off 10 overs and seemingly cruising through until a collapse which saw the team scrape through with two balls to go. George Newton retiring on 30, Ben Johnson 18 and Scott Wardley 12 making contributions.

Former England captain MJK Smith was on hand to present the awards to the players.

Nantwich, Cheshire Cup Winners and West Midlands Champions now qualify for the National Finals, one of only six teams left in the competition out of an entry of over 1800 clubs.

The final takes place at Oakham School in early August when they will play the other five teams from all parts of the country to decide who are the National Under 13s Champions.

Our thanks to David Parry for sending details of this very successful team.
