Audlem History Society's visit to Catalyst in Widnes

Last week 21 members & friends of the Society made a visit to Catalyst, the Science Discovery Centre in Widnes, and had a most interesting day. We had been booked in originally for a talk on the history of chocolate but, on arrival, Dr. Diana Leitch, one of the Trustees, suggested we change the talk to a history of the area itself. This was an excellent idea, as we could see all the places of interest from the museum itself, & we were enthralled. Diana is such an excellent speaker that we shall be booking her to come to the History Society to give another talk in the near future.

After lunch we were free to explore the 3 galleries of exhibits. Meanwhile, one of our members discovered that her grandfather was Chairman of the Directors of the company originally on the site of Catalyst in the 1920s. We all agreed that it was a most enjoyable & fascinating visit.
