THE intervention of firefighters from Audlem ensured a property between Market Drayton and Woore was spared from flooding on Monday afternoon.

At around 3.20pm on Monday, May 24, firefighters from Audlem and Market Drayton were called to Nantwich Road to reports of flooding at a property.

At the scene they discovered that a road side culvert had become overwhelmed with excessive rainwater, and run off from a nearby brook and was in danger of flooding a property.

Crews immediately got to work using the major pump on the Audlem appliance to reduce the amount of water in the culvert, with the water only a couple of centimetres from flooding the property.

Nantwich Road out of Woore had to be closed for a period of time to allow crews to work safely on the roadway.

After approximately an hour of pumping out the culvert, the water level had successfully been reduced enough to allow the culvert to operate normally with the quantity of water flowing into it.

A spokesman for Market Drayton Fire Station praised the efforts of the crews involved.

"We are pleased to report that through the great team work of both crews that the flood water was successfully prevented from entering the property," they said.

"We would like to thank any motorists inconvenienced by the road closure for their patience and understanding."
