Audlem FC Match Report

Match Report Sunday January 7th 2018.

Very early from my bed after a night combating severe toothache. So many painkillers taken- and listening to the BBC World Service in the very early hours.

Much talk of Trump of course and of Iran. And a fine piece by The BBC book Club with Agatha Christie as their subject. So much goes on through the night hours on Radio 4. Good work by the BBC.

Silent garden before dawn broken by the plaintiff hooting of the owls. A chilly and raw morning.Now, my house bereft of the colours of Christmas. All taken down and packed away for now.

Today, with what promises to be a good turn out of 18 players, we face a team name White Eagles. A team formed by Polish residents of Crewe. So you can Say Audlem goes " Continental "
Pitch has drained well in spite of the weeks precipitation.Will be muddy though and I have packed my mop and bucket to clean down the changing rooms after showers are done etc.
We have a new sign stating This Is Audlem F C. To be "touched by the players as they" leave to go to the pitch. Idea stolen from Anfield where they have such a sign for LFC.

At the Annexe and get the kit out and ready for the team. Gym in good use even though ice everywhere and a very frosted playing field. Feels OK underfoot as the very low sun warms it up a tad. Kev Mort gets our new blue & white nets in place and his little sons, Josh & Jack, place the corner flags -- new blue and white colours too.Teams all turn up. Good banter as they change. Each Audlem player has to pay me £5 which covers the referees charges and the hire of the changing rooms. Both teams ready and on the field of play. Much running around to keep warm. Strange to be playing a team who are all speaking in their mother tongue- does give an air of a continental match as all are Polish.

1045 Referee Kevin Crump arrives and after much heated discussion, refuses to let the game go ahead. A frozen area in the swampy Shroppie corner!!!Off he goes leaving 22 fully kitted out players on the pitch.We agree to go ahead and play as a "friendly" Result matters to all but cannot be submitted to the league.

Mikhal, manager of White Eagle, says he has refereed before and indeed has a whistle in his car, so we kick off at 1103

We play as hard and as fast as for a normal game. Suffice to say I will just list the goals with no commentary.
1107 we score as Danny Mahoney fires in well 1-0

HALF TIME – and we still lead

1205 and White Eagle score1-1
1208 Ross Henderson races up field and scores 2-1
1218 Kev Mort wins a penalty. Trevor McDowell steps up and puts it away 3-1

Then we enter a "Keystone Cops" Period!!
1220 – 3-2
1225 3-3
1230 3-4!!!!!A right mess.

Then, 1235. Kev Mort scores 4-4
1238 Mo Haroon scores beautifully 5-4 Game over. We win.

Language has been very clean, but I cannot speak for the Polish men, as I am a bit short of their words. But -- Dziekuje Ci bardzo ''. Thank you very much

I invite White Eagle to the Lord C for lashings of Chips and Bread and Butter and all do come which is very good.

We will play them in March now as an approved league match. Next game here on the 14th versus a strong team, Nantwich Young Farmers.
