Audlem FC 1-3 Mary Dendy FC

Audlem Football Club fell to a 3-1 defeat on Sunday in their latest pre-season friendly.

After the torrential rain over the weekend, the clouds cleared and the sun came out ahead of kick off, with the Wrenbury pitch looking perfect. A squad of 17 to pick from giving the manager selection headaches ahead of the start of the season on 3rd September.

Audlem started the game well, moving the ball quickly on the slick surface with Ben Walker, Will Cork and Adam Caunt all creating the play in the first 15 minutes. Mary Dendy played their way into the game, and started to control the tempo as the half wore on, their extra numbers in the middle of the park causing the issue.

Kev Rodgers forced the issue on 35 minutes with a cracking tackle and drive to win a corner. Audlem continued to press and got their reward two minutes before the break with a brilliant Will Cork solo goal.

After numerous substitutions at half time, and the side started slowly. Following a misplaced pass in defence, the Mary Dendy centre forward chanced his arm from outside the area and a hideous bobble took the ball over Connor Baxter in the Audlem goal. 1-1. Worse was to come as Audlem switched off following a set piece for Mary Dendy to take the lead. 1-2.

More changes from the bench to try and wrestle the advantage back, but the game became more scrappy, with the style suiting the visitors. No major opportunity to equalise came, and after going all out attack to try and grab an equaliser, Mary Dendy scored a slick breakaway third in the final minute of the match to put the game to bed.

A game of fine margins, with positives to take and more areas to work on -- that's what preseason is all about. On to next week for our penultimate pre-season friendly away to Willaston White Star of the league above.

League Season

The fixtures have been announced for the new Sunday League Division One season, with out first game back in the village on Sunday 10th September, 11am kick off. We hope to see you then. Full fixtures are:
