Match Report

Out to my garden on this day as the clocks spring forward to British Summer Time.

Birds singing beautifully as they greet a very sunny morning after a touch of frost. The air displays of Canada geese all over as they have dissappeared to their summer feeding grounds Bird seed out, along with bread for them. Camelia bush out in all its glory. And yet again, frog spawn is there in the tiny, tiny bit of water in my old ornamental pond. Each year they have been here, come ice or snow, for the past 30 years or more. I hear the frogs croaking away as the males swamp the females and the spawn is released. They will hatch and be gone one day. And I never see them again – until the cycle repeats itself next year. A truly wondrous little part of the life hereabouts.

My trusty Volvo E 40 is out of action, having been the victim of the pot holes that blight all the roads of Cheshire. We are truly a third world country in the way the state of highways is a total mess. Broken spring or half shaft. We shall see on Monday when it goes to the garage.
So I have to load up another car with the kit etc. Drive into a peaceful village. An aircraft chalking its way across a blue, blue sky. And so calm a day.
Pitch looking good after the care that Darrell Williams of ANSA has given it. Off load. Kit ready in the changing room.

The calm before the storm in a way.

Opponents today are Sandbach Town. Referee is Des Evan, top referee of the league.

Kick off sharp at 1100 as the church bells fall silent.

1102 Sandbach win two corners in succession but no gain fir them.

Then – Pete Jones, our skipper, racing down the left wing with an opponent alongside- fighting to win the ball. Pete goes down and all could hear his leg snap with a loud crack! Lower leg bones broken. Just like that!! 4 minutes 20 seconds into the match.

Call to 999 for an ambulance at 1107. At 1200 Referee in consultation with both teams, abandons the game. Men have family commitments. The Ambulance arrives at 1220. A long wait! Pete taken off to Leighton.

Players all disperse. A very sad day for all, especially for Pete.

Next game here on 1st April
