As a member of the teams that put on big Audlem events for the pleasure of all, I am increasingly concerned about the future for such happenings – all organised by very dedicated and willing volunteers.
We now understand that in order to use the playing field of Audlem – our only major open air community facility – we now have to give Cheshire East Council a cheque for £500, which they then bank and hold over us in case we damage the grass! Then they refund it to us less the costs they may incur.
When they do plan to refund us we do not know, but the wheels of such accounts offices oft run slow.
A gross imposition on such as The annual Carnival, for it will empty our coffers!
In addition, we now learn that it is the plan of those distant Cheshire East bodies to make a charge based on numbers attending the event! Those making a charge such as ASET for our famous Party on The Park musical night will pay extra per 1000. Those not charging will pay less – but still pay this new imposition.
I despair that we have to be so dictated to for the use of our "own" playing filed – in effect our village green.
If only the Parish Council had acted long ago to take over this vital facility. Would that we were as well served as Hankelow who now own their own village green.
