Audlem CW3

One of the interesting topics arising out of the Canal & River Trust's Workshop held earlier this year was 'marketing and ways of boosting visitors for local businesses'.

Following on from this a number of local people representing the village shops, pubs, ADAPT, ASET, ADAS etc. got their heads together and arranged a meeting with a view to setting up an 'Audlem Tourist Group'.

At their inaugural meeting, the need for a social media site was identified as a means of ensuring that the message of the Audlem village community is spread as far and wide as possible, the aim being to encourage more visitors to come and see what Audlem has to offer.

At present, the majority of the village businesses and organisations have their own individual social media pages, particularly on Facebook, and AudlemOnline does a brilliant job in promoting the village. However, there is nothing in place which brings all of these together as far as social media is concerned.

I was assigned the task of setting up a page on Facebook for Audlem Village – we needed a name for the Facebook page which would both identify the village and its location: Audlem CW3 was suggested, discussed and adopted. This combines not only Audlem but its location and catchment area.

Having had the name agreed, I have been busy setting up the page and getting it established for on-going use. Since its introduction last Thursday on 7th July we have already reached 2,500 people and had over 320 'likes', with the top post already achieving over 900 views (the Audlem Beer festival).

I have identified over 60 potential contributors to the Page, who I think are likely to have special activities/events which can be promoted on Facebook and I am in the process of contacting each of these businesses/ associations/ clubs/ charities/ churches etc. to encourage them to take part in this element of the Audlem CW3 Facebook Page.

The Page is already linked to AudlemOnline. If you are on Facebook please have a look at 'Audlem CW3'. Please invite your friends to 'like' the Page, as this in turn promotes the Page further afield. This Facebook Page will only be a successful means of promoting the many and varied events which take place in the village if everyone contributes.
