Audlem Sunday X1.v. Moddershall CCHassell Trophy (semi-final : 5th August 2018)

  • Moddershall 216 all out (38.2 overs)
  • Audlem 140 all out ( 32.2 overs)

Audlem were well beaten by their table topping opponents from Moddershall in Sunday's Hassell Trophy semi-final at The Gorse Croft.

Audlem were always on the back foot against the attack minded opposition who from the outset took control of proceedings after winning the toss and batting on another hot and sunny Sunday afternoon. Firstly no.4 bat Weerasinghe taking centre stage with a run-a-ball 70 then no.9 Tennakoon blasting a quick-fire 47 to set a competitive target of 216. Audlem's bowlers did well to restrict their visitors to manageable proportions with a wicket for A Naveed and 2 apiece for Callum McIlveen, Ewan Farnell, Simon Swift and Andy Thorburn (+ a run out).

Audlem's reply never really got under way with the fall of regular wickets and pedestrian scoring rate which put the run chase well behind the clock. Only no,8 Andy Rothwell (47 not out) and no.9 Callum McIlveen (23) put up any meaningful resistance with a 46 run partnership to add some respectability to the final total. Audlem finished 140 all out in the 33rd over.

Moddershall now go on to face Leek in the final and leave Audlem to' concentrate on the League'.

Audlem are at present comfortably placed in mid-table with 5 games to play and a glance at the league will show the strength of the competition they face every week with clubs such as Leek, Stone and Longton in regular opposition with their superior resources and much larger player pool to draw upon.
