Saturday vs Woore

Audlem's cricketers made home advantage count in last Saturday's encounter with old friends and local rivals, Woore. They achieved an eight wicket victory after being set a modest 177 to win on a decent batting surface and fast outfield which proved well within their capabilities as they chased down the target with almost 6 overs to spare. Skipper Chris Shenton ( 61 not out ) led the way aided by Dave Parkinson who finished on 32 not out to bring the team home with an unbroken third wicket partnership of 88. Opening batsmen, Dan Butler ( 38 ) and Andy Rothwell ( 22 ) contributed their share to the victory with a valuable first wicket stand of 62 with few alarms.

Earlier in the day after losing the toss Audlem found themselves in the field and things started well with prolific opener Andy Burton back in the pavilion without troubling the scorer but young Michael Burton ( 56 ) and Mike Griffiths ( 63 ) soon got going with a fine stand on 99 but after Michael was dismissed the expected acceleration never materialised as the middle order batters were held in check with some accurate bowling and decent ground fielding. The hour's preparation prior to the start of the game paid dividends as the fielding was much improved from previous weeks and may become a permanent fixture on match days. The pick of the bowlers on the day was Callum McIlveen with figures of 8 overs 3 wickets for 39 runs but all played their part in keeping the score down below 200.

Sunday vs Burton CC

The Sunday fixture against Burton CC ( Chester ) was abandoned due to the persistent rain in the morning with more forecast for the rest of the day.

Next week

Next Saturday Audlem have another local derby, this time they make the short trip to Onneley whilst their Sunday counterparts welcome Woore Sunday team to the Gorse Croft. Both games have a 1:00 pm start.
