The Pre, Pre-Season Report.
Welcome back! With fixtures already released, nets a few days away and the Cricket World Cup in full swing now seems a good time to take you on a guided tour of Audlem Cricket Club's season ahead.
This year is particularly special, as The Club celebrate their 50th birthday with events which one club insider told us, 'are likely to be bigger than Andy Rothwell's nose'.
Last year's club Captain Rich 'Wich' Wilson is already well underway with his celebrations for The Badgers half century and has been spotted sporting a receding hairline.
Firstly, nets are running from the 6th March until the 2nd of April at Sandbach Boys School. All ages and abilities are more than welcome to come down as we are always on the lookout for new players! If you would like any further details about nets, or the club, do not hesitate contact richwils@hotmail.co.uk.
Also of note are membership fees. It is now £70 for Adults and £35 for juniors/students with a £10 and £5 discount respectively if paid before the end of May. New members: Adults £30, juniors/students £15. However, please note that we have already fulfilled our quota of Kolpak players for the season.
In terms of cricket the 1st XI kick off at home to Styal on the 18th of April at Bunsey Bank whilst their 2nds host ours on the same day. On the 17th of May is the 40 over Knockout Cup away at Hartford and the T20 begins at home to the winners of Mossley/Wisaston on the 7th June.
We are actively seeking match sponsors for all our teams home games and this can be arranged via contacting richwils@hotmail.co.uk The club will also have a Sunday team running again this season captained by Rich Wilson with fixtures already lined up against a host of sides from across Cheshire.
The Fines Tin © in will be in full operation again this season after last year's netted over £220 which paid for an end of season curry. This can be an expensive hobby though, if you're prone to ducks or dropped catches and it was well avoided by several members.
Plans are also afoot for a 6-a-side tournament which was such a success two seasons ago, and also a T20 tournament with two invitational XI's. These are TBA so stayed tuned for more news on this later in the year. Quiz & Darts nights have also been suggested along with several other ideas so keep an eye out for those too via our social networking sites.
Finally, local support is always welcome, The Club boasts one of the most picturesque grounds in the league and we have ample seating and a fully stocked bar ready to be taken advantage of! If the sun is beating down on a weekend between April and September you can guarantee one of our teams will be in action so pop down and enjoy a day's cricket.
