End-of-season match vs Wistaston

Audlem's cricketers were able to extend their season by another week after an invitation from neighbouring Wistaston for a game on Sunday.

The teams were composed of a mixture of Saturday league players, regular Sunday lads and prospective additions for next season's campaign with a competitive game in prospect. Audlem elected to bat and got off to a decent start with Chris Shenton (25) and Tom Sadji (49) piling on the runs at a good rate but on their dismissal the following batsmen failed to capitalise and the innings looked likely to come to a premature end well before the allotted 40 over mark. Dave Blatherwick ( 12 ) , Abbhi Jayan ( 21 ) and Dave Parkinson ( 25 ) made useful contributions to the cause but the plaudits must go to Richard Irvine ( 23 not out ) and Simon Swift ( 36 not out ) who added an invaluable 66 for a remarkable 10th wicket partnership to enable the visitors to set a challenging 221 for 9 after their allocation.

Wistaston's reply never really got underway after tea as Ben Mogg and Abbhi Jayan put a stranglehold on their reply. A flurry of four consecutive sixes from the dangerous Marcus Pownall threatened briefly to set the innings in motion but when he was run out the remainder of the batsmen had no answer to the guile of Connor Howard who bowled 3 overs claiming 4 victims for only 10 runs and Richard Irvine taking the other wicket to complete a fine all round performance. Wistaston's innings came to a close in only the 17th over for 70 handing Audlem victory by 151 runs.
