It's been a busy winter at Audlem Cricket Club with the construction of a new equipment / mower shed, excavating and laying a new hard standing parking area with a new pedestrian entrance gate and the formation of an umpire's changing facility converted from an old storage room with the majority of the work done by club members.

Our sincere thanks goes to all the help and assistance we have received in our efforts to improve and enhance the The Gorse Croft ground to all the following :-

  • Ex player Lennie Meredith who gave invaluable help on the groundworks with his skills on handling the JCB excavator (Still got the touch of a midwife on a digger ).
  • Harold Hankey and his beloved 'Fergie' tractor on rolling the expanse of the outfield and car parking area.
  • Ed Frayling for loads of preliminary rotary cutting to the outfield prior to gang mowing plus supplying door frames for the new shed and furnishing the umpire's changing room with a luxurious deep pile carpet and nest of tables.
  • Justin of East Midlands Construction who kindly donated a fully glazed window and glass panels for the entrance door to our new shed.
  • Chris Ellwood who loaned his excavator FOC for the groundworks.
  • Warmund House Carpets ( Bridgemere ) for supplying floor tiles for the new umpire's changing room.
  • Last season's sponsors and Audlem Parish Council without your financial help these projects wouldn't have been possible.

But our greatest thanks go to our wonderful landlords, the Sutton family who allow us to play cricket on what we consider to be the most picturesque ground in South Cheshire . Also the practical help and assistance we receive throughout the year from Pete, Robert and Geoff is invaluable. Our sincere gratitude.

Work has been underway on preparing wickets for our two pre-season friendly games prior to the league season starting on 24 April. The first game is this coming Sunday when an Audlem X1 hosts Crewe Vagrants (11:30am ) and the following Saturday (17 April ) we are again at home to our neighbours from Woore.

Due to Covid 19 restrictions we have been unable to arrange any pre-season indoor net practice sessions as in previous seasons so will start outdoor nets at the ground prior to the start of the season. If anyone is looking for a new club or looking to start playing then please get in touch. We now play our cricket in The North Staffs and South Cheshire League on Saturdays and a large percentage of Sunday games are at home with nearly all the away fixtures within half an hours travel for both days ( full fixture list is on our play-cricket website).

All our news and contact details can be found on the play-cricket website or Facebook page.
