Following Audlem s dominant win against Knypersley, the team headed on the road to Moddershall hoping to build on last week s performance.

Upon arrival, the conditions weren t looking optimistic. With constant showers and only a tarpaulin for cover, the wicket looked in as poor shape as some of our players after their heavy night out.

After a couple of hours, the rain stopped and the game was able to commence, with both sides innings reduced to 25 overs.

Skipper Chris lost the toss and Moddershall sent us in to bat. This seemed to be the right decision, as both openers were dismissed within the first eight balls. It was clear that on a difficult track and with a slow outfield, it would be a low-scoring affair.

Following the dismissals of Chris and Venu, in-form Dave Blatherwick and Irfan looked to steady the ship, putting on an impressive 73-run partnership before Irfan was dismissed for 24 and Dave followed shortly after for a valuable 39.

This saw the introduction of big-hitter Rahul. Some decent running between the stumps with Bertie added a further 22 runs. Some lusty blows from Jake at the end of the innings, including a maximum, saw him finish on 14 off just 7 deliveries, with Audlem ending their innings on 120 runs from their allocated overs. It was unclear what sort of total would be par on such a difficult track.

Following an inspirational team talk from skipper Chris, Audlem took to the field, opening the bowling with AJ and Rahul. The home side got off to a strong start, adding 9 runs in their first over. However, it wasn t long until Rahul struck with a beautiful delivery. AJ followed suit with a wicket maiden, putting the pressure back on Moddershall.

Audlem didn t make things easy for themselves, putting in a less-than-impressive fielding display with a total of five catches dropped! Despite this, wickets fell at regular intervals, allowing Audlem to keep the pressure on the home side with 2 wickets each for AJ and Rahul, and 4 for Bertie. Moddershall were dismissed for 78, and Audlem took the maximum 21 points.

Audlem are back at home next week to face Alsager
