The Support Group also organises regular Carers' Break days and, during March, enjoyed an interesting afternoon at Crewe Hall when members of Audlem Carers' Support Group met up for a guided tour of the Hall followed by afternoon tea.

Gill Lowe, a member of the Support Group reports:

"As we arrived, we were welcomed with tea or coffee, then taken by Kyle Halliwell on a tour of certain areas of the building that had particularly interesting features.

"The original building dates from the 12th century and in the room where we had tea, a wonderful carved stone fireplace from that period can still be seen.

"Other interesting rooms included a dining room with Jacobean panelling and a strap work ceiling, the ornate Chapel, the magnificent staircase with it's many stained glass roof lights and the Victorian opulence of the floor to ceiling marble fireplaces in the largest, built to impress rooms, which the hotel now use for functions.

"Our guide Kyle, told us that, as a result of so many guests having asked him about the history of Crewe Hall, he had taken it upon himself to learn as much as he could, and so, although only employed as a member of the hospitality staff, he now also showed people around, and a very good job he did too!

"After the tour, we settled down to a beautifully presented tea of delicately cut sandwiches, cones with jam and cream, and the most wonderful selection of dainty cakes served with as much tea as one could drink.

"With much to talk about and some serious food analyses having been done, we concluded that an Afternoon Tea trip to Crewe Hall was to be highly recommended!"

Audlem Carers' Support Group is financially supported by Cheshire East Council and South Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group and will continue to arrange regular Carers' Breaks each quarter.
