Despite the continued unseasonal weather and the stresses and strains associated with watching the England football team, the Audlem Bowling Club's annual Charity Plate competition held on Sunday 30th June had 36 entrants, a record number. It was also nice to see a number of non-members popping in throughout the day to watch the games and to contribute to the charities being supported; Hearing Dogs for the Deaf and Parkinsons UK.

On the bowling front.

As always the whole event was superbly organised by Leslie Davenport (Supported by her able assistant Alan Davenport) who kept everything on track and running smoothly.

All the league qualifying matches were hotly contested (a tribute to Leslie's expertise is striking the right balance in the pairings) and both semi finals were nip and tuck with each of the pairs coming close to making the final.

Once again the final was again a close affair. However after an end to end duel, in ever dampening conditions, Neil Goldie and Geoff Weaver saw off the valiant efforts of Jean Lancaster and Graham Tysall.

On the Charity side:

The Club raised £536 on the day.

A big thank you from everyone at the club goes out to those local businesses who supported the event through their generous donations to the raffle prizes, namely:

  • Oxtail and Trotter
  • Audlem Chippy
  • Williams Newsagents
  • The Bridge Inn
  • Belton Farm Cheesemakers
  • Audlem Co-op

The club will add to the £536 raised to date by continuing with some of the current competitions and introducing a few more fund raising activities through the remainder of the season.
