For the past two weeks at 11.10 am on Sundays Audlem bells have started ringing again for a service at 11.30 am.

Places of worship were closed under the coronavirus lockdown, so the country's 5000 churches and chapels with working bells have remained silent. The last time bells were silenced for a long time was in WW2, when they were to only to be rung to inform of an invasion by enemy troops. Now, ringing will be included in the resumption of services to remind people that it is Sunday.

There are limitations, however, ringers have to be socially distanced, wear a mask and only ring for 15 minutes at a time. This means in Audlem that only 3 bells can be rung instead of the 6.

Hopefully restrictions will gradually begin to ease.
