The efforts to tackle the number of through Heavy Goods Vehicles has attracted the media today. BBC Radio Stoke has recorded an extensive feature story with a number of interviewees from the village, including Stafford Street resident Ann Tilling, who has the HGVs passing within a metre of her front door and regularly driving onto the pavements.

The BBC interviewer saw the problems the trucks can cause at first hand while driving to Audlem. An HGV crashed into a bridge at Madeley, partly cutting off the road, indeed stopping the trucks getting through for a time. The report could be broadcast tomorrow, Thursday, between 7.30am and 9.00am.

The Chronicle is also reporting on the story and had a photographer in the village today showing Bill Consterdine and Ann Tilling measuring the width of the road past St James' Church. It was just 3.84 metres wide, or 12 feet 7 inches in old money, hardly wide enough for cars, never mind 44 tonne HGVs.
