An attempt was made to steal property at Williams' Newsagents this afternoon between 12.40 and 12. 55.
A man of Eastern European (but possibly Asian) origin, distracted the young sales assistant, while two further men of similar origin, then separately entered the shop and were in the process of attempting to remove the till.
Fortunately, they were distrurbed by an incoming customer who challenged them. The men left rapidly without taking anything, when yet more customers arrived.
It is believed they were using an old silver saloon car, which had an obvious replacement, much darker, coloured driver's door. It is also believed that they entered and left the village in the Woore direction, and were not in the village longer than 15 minutes in total.
At one point the car was believed to have been parked directly ouside the shop.
The Police have been involved, and are appealing for any witnesses and/or further suspicious sightings of the trio, who are possibly in their 20s/30s and had black hair/short trimmed beards.
