Aston & District W.I. November 2021 Report

Our November meeting took place at Sound and Broomhall Community Centre beginning at 2p.m.

Kay and Peter Epton are both members of the Nantwich Branch of the Royal British Legion becoming involved many years ago following in his father's footsteps. They gave a most interesting talk about the RBL and all the good work they continue to do for our ex-service men and women and their families.

They began with the history of the Legion and how the Poppy appeal first came to be. They then brought us right up to date by outlining the primary aim today as caring for members of the three forces; providing health care; adapting homes; giving financial advice and helping with mental problems resulting from the terrors of war. They ended by reminding everyone that the Nantwich Branch are always happy to welcome new members.

Christine Grove gave the vote of thanks.

Following the talk, the A.G.M. took place appointing the committee and president for the forthcoming year. Rosemary Lomas will continue as president and a number of new members joined the committee.

This month's walk, organised by Irene Williamson, will start from Acton Church carpark at 10.30.a.m. on Wednesday 10th November and this will be followed by lunch at the Farmer's Arms.

The Luncheon Club, organised by Joan Sweeney, will meet on Tuesday 9th November at the Red Lion in Wybunbury – all welcome.

After tea and cake was served, the raffle took place and this meeting's competition winner was announced as Heather Pass. The Competition Cup for the past year was awarded to Joan Sweeney.

Our next meeting will be our Christmas Lunch Party and will be held at Sound and Broomhall Community Centre on Friday December 3rd at 12o'clock. The competition will be a 'Christmas Napkin'.
