Aston & District W.I. July Report.

President Heather Pass welcomed members and visitors to the July meeting.

Our speaker, Mrs Daphne Ashby gave us a very interesting insight into her life and how she gave up a career in teaching to follow her love of embroidery and craft. Her presentation was entitled "The Skill of Embroidery" but she displayed many other crafts including beading and padded boxes. Many items were made as trial pieces to be included in the books she has written on the subject or the kits she has produced. A truly inspiring speaker, she was thanked by Irene Williamson.

All of our usual classes continue. The Luncheon Group are looking forward to a meal at the Bhurtpore in Aston. Members were also reminded of our forthcoming Produce and Craft show at the August meeting which will also include a fish and chip supper. Many entries have already been received.

A report from our link Institute was given on the 2016 AGM of the National Federation held in Brighton in June.

Details of an Afternoon Tea at Peckforton Castle, a trip around the Lyceum Theatre in Crewe and the Autumn Council meeting in Winsford when the speaker will be Angela Rippon were also given out.

Our next meeting is a members only meeting on Friday 5th August but any visitors will be very welcome on September 2nd. Details, as always, can be found on our website at www.astonanddistrictwi.org
