Aston & District W.I. April 2018 Report

A well attended meeting began with a welcome from our President Jennifer Bourne.
The Cheshire Federation General Meeting was attended by Diane Joslyn and she reported back to the group about the moving story of the life of Chris Lubbe living in South Africa and his association with Nelson Mandela.

Our classes of Scrabble, Darts and Dominoes are on going.
On 11th April the Walking Group are going to Apedale Country Park.
The Luncheon Club will be meeting at the Bhurtpore at Aston on 10th April.

Our speaker for the evening was Mr Michael John Parkin. He began with a short history of the Nantwich Show. He explained his involvement over many years in this event which takes place every year on the last Wednesday in July. The second part of his talk was about his climb to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro with a team which raised £20,000 which was evenly distributed between four local charities. The climb was to an altitude of 6,000m and took them through rainforest to the rocky summit. The return to base camp was not without problems as two members of the group had to be carried off the mountain. The talk was illustrated with some wonderful photographs.
Mrs Rosie Lomas gave the vote of thanks.

The competition was a photograph of a mountain which was won by Mrs Ann Pye. The evening was concluded with the raffle.
Our next meeting takes place on Friday, May 4th, when the speaker, Mr Nick Rowlins will give a talk on "Wildlife in your Garden."

Do come along and and join us at St. Andrew's Chapel Aston, where you will be assured of a warm welcome.
