Our April meeting saw us return to our summer evening meetings at Sound and Broomhall Community hall. Glenys Inight our president, welcomed us and ran through a varied selection of upcoming activities, quiz night, walk and theatre trip included. Glenys then went on to welcome our speaker for the evening, Christine Stockton with her talk "The story of Flamenco."

Christine, dressed in her beautiful Flamenco attire, led us through the long and complex history of the art form from the early days of The Moors to current day using short video clips and demonstrations. We learned about the melting pot of cultures that have influenced the style of flamenco we see today if we are lucky enough to visit Andalucia where it has deep seated roots.

Christine herself developed a love of flamenco many years ago, recently returning from a festival in Jerez. She really showed her passion as she demonstrated how percussion, footwork, marking of rhythm and choreography to song interlinks in this dramatic form of expression.

The unusual and intricate rhythms are captivating and Christine demonstrated the breadth of the art form through a range of different dancing using clapping, a stick for marking a rhyhm as well as a fan and a scarf.

After watching all that activity, tea biscuits and chat were needed!

Our monthly competion was an item of Spanish memorabilia, won by Glenys with a lovely flamenco apron.

Next month we look forward to a session on facial yoga by Kristina Vopikova on Friday 3rd May 7:15. New members always welcome.

The luncheon club meet on Friday 12th April at the Farmers Arms 12 for 12:30

The walking group will meet at 10:30 on Wed 10th April at The Wilbraham Arms carpark (ST72AX)
