The October meeting of Aston and District Women's Institute was held on Friday, 6th October at Broomhall and Sound community hall at 2 pm
Glenys Inight our president welcomed us to the meeting and reported back on her visit to the Cheshire Federations autumn meeting at the story house in Chester where joined by two other members they had enjoyed talks from Karin Snape, Debra Drake and Philippa Forrester, all had thoroughly enjoyed the event
Our speaker for this meeting was Mr Nick Jarvis a local Police Community Support Officer who began by outlining his working career which started off in horticulture for many years even taking him to Portugal to grow strawberries before completely changing direction in his 40s to become a PCSO
Whilst based in Nantwich ,Mr Jarvis described how he covers a more rural patch and his role is to be a visible presence to the public
He outlined the types of crimes that have been reported throughout September from missing persons to theft and buildings alarms issues to name but a few.
We were encouraged to report any crimes on 101 as this helps the police build a picture of where and when crime is occurring
We finished the afternoon with an open discussion where Mr Jarvis answered our many and varied questions
The afternoon was very informative and we were encouraged to take away information leaflets with advice on how to keep our homes and personal belongings safe.
