Aston & District W.I. March 2023 Report

Our meeting took place on Friday 3rd March at 2 pm. A warm welcome was given by our President to all our members before reminding them that this would be our last meeting at Broomhall Community room in the afternoon. The next meeting would take place at St Andrews Chapel in Aston in the evening.

The Luncheon Club this month will meet at The Swan Inn, Wybunbury at 12.00 noon on Tuesday 7th March.

The walking group will meet on Wednesday 8th March in the car park at 10.30am at he Bleeding Wolf, Scholar Green, ST7 3BQ.

At the conclusion of the official business, the President introduced our speaker, Linda Banks. She began what turned out to be a wonderful demonstration of flower arranging. Lots of helpful tips were given while she constructed five decorative displays, the first being "A flower arrangement in the good old fashioned way".

This simply used a vase of water, without a piece of Oasis which was therefore kinder to the environment. Her final arrangement used an old cardboard box covered in brown paper and the flowers simply cascaded beautifully out of the half open box.

The vote of thanks was given by Sue Thomas.

We all enjoyed our tea and cake before the raffle and five lucky winners went home with beautiful floral displays.

The competition of a flower ornament was won by Ruth Sulley.

Our next meeting at Aston will take place on 14th April at 7.15pm. The speaker will be Miss K Castle and the talk is entitled " How I ended up in prison".

Visitors and new members are always very welcome and for further information please take a look at our web site: – www.astonanddistrictwi.org.uk
